Lou Dobbs interview on C-SPAN (6/26/2007): Since government won't listen to "we the people" Lou Dobbs recommended that voters change their registration to Independent.
This is the only way to convince government that "we the people" are mad as hell and are not going to take it any longer. Government ignores our phone calls, faxes, e-mails, and letters.

Politicians talk a good line about working for "we the people." However, it is all BS. The first priority of a politician is to get elected or reelected. There is no higher priority and they will go to any lengths, legal and illegal, to accomplish their task. Their complete loyalty is to those who provide money or to those who provide votes for their reelection campaigns. The golden rule still applies: "He who has the gold rules." That means that our government is under the complete control of corporations and special interest groups. Free Enterprise does not exist.
Once politicians get elected then they have another way of attracting money and votes. That method is called EARMARKS which are mostly secret and only applied at the last minute to bills before the congress.
The most recent Democratic congress that took over in the 2004 elections promised lobbying reform which has yet to happen . They also promised transparency of bills and earmarks, but all is still hidden until the last minute.
EARMARKS are a way of politicians giving your tax dollars to their supporters with very little accountability and without you even knowing who the politician was who requested the earmark.

Voter Brainwashing
Brainwashing normally starts in a child's early years by overhearing their parents speak of political matters. So the child decides, "My daddy was a Democrat and so am I." or "My daddy was a Republican and so am I."
When people start paying attention to politics they find themselves being brainwashed again by key sound-byte statements repeated over and over again by politicians. I am sure you have heard statements such as "free enterprise," "tax & spend," "tax cuts," "freedom," "security," and many more. And, the voter is attracted to whichever politician that issues the sound-byte they like. The sad think is that the sound-byte is meaningless. Don't forget to whom the politicians owe their alliegence; and it is not "we the people."
What Can I Do?
Don't just sit there and compain! Phone, write, e-mail your elected representatives and let them know how you think. You must do this over and over again -- drive them nuts. Also, constantly send e-mail messages to the television network news departments. Until the news media starts constantly reporting on an issue nothing will be done.
Look at the current example of illegal immigration. The politicians refused to listen to the American people. Illegal immigration was ignored by most of the news media with the exception of excellent news reporting by Lou Dobbs on CNN.
Recently the Senate tried to pass a Comprehensive Immigration Bill. The bill was just a rehash of legislation passed by the congress in 1986 that was supposed to solve the illegal immigration problem. However, the government never enforced the law and illegal immigration reformed failed.
This supposed "Comprehensive Immigration Bill" finally got the attention of the news media and set off a firestorm of letters, phone calls and e-mails from the public to their representatives.
Over 80% of the American people want our borders completely secured first. However, the Senate is still not listening and they are getting battered by the public and news media.
I repeat: the only way to sway politicians is to get the attention of the news media. To do that the public must bombard both the news media and the politicians with letters, phone calls and e-mail.
Sit there and do nothing and you deserve the results of your effort.
